Goddess Fish Promotions Presents: Christmas at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard & a $25 Amazon/BN GC

As the year draws to a close, the brand-new colony of Promise Lodge is thriving, a welcoming community that offers three Amish sisters a fresh start. And as Christmas approaches, gifts big and small are given with love . . .

As Promise Lodge’s first wedding arrives, the evidence of a community building a foundation for the future is a cause for celebration. But the bishop’s narrow-minded wedding sermon doesn’t sit well with the Bender sisters, the town’s courageous founders, especially widowed Mattie Schwartz. She believes marriage and family aren’t the most important of God’s gifts—even if she suspects her tender feelings for Preacher Amos Troyer run deeper than simple friendship.

Amos hasn’t given up hope that stubborn, spirited Mattie will change her mind about taking another husband, but when an accident threatens to change the course of his life forever, he wonders if the Lord has sent him a message. He’ll need faith, hope, and charity to find the right path—and a Christmas blessing to convince Mattie to walk it with him.

Excerpt:

Mary Kate leaned forward, straining to see the guests as they came out of Noah’s house in a steady stream. Lots of people had arrived from Coldstream, where the Schwartzes and Preacher Amos had lived before, not to mention kinfolk of the Peterscheims who’d come from other towns . . . folks she didn’t know and would likely not see again. They would figure she’d crossed the line with an errant boyfriend, and they would judge her. She rose from the swing, resigning herself to a cheese sandwich and a glass of milk.

She was slicing a ball of creamy, pale mozzarella cheese the Kuhn sisters had made when rapid footsteps clattered across the porch out front.

“Mary Kate? Mary Kate, you won’t believe it!” her sister called out as she entered the house. Gloria burst into the kitchen, her dark eyes alight with excitement. “Guess who kept looking at me all during the church service?”

Mary Kate shrugged, arranging the cheese on a slice of bread she’d spread with mayonnaise. “Could have been anybody, seeing’s how so many folks from out of town are—”

“Roman Schwartz!” Gloria blurted. “It was easy to see him, of course, because he was on the front row with his brother and that Mennonite guy Rosetta likes.”

“Truman Wickey.”

“Jah, but the best part,” Gloria continued in a breathless voice, “was how Roman was sneaking peeks at me. I’m going back to the lodge now, because if I help refill water glasses or hand out the sliced pie, I can keep an eye on him—and convince him to ask me out! You’d think he’d take the hint after I’ve been talking to him all summer, but I feel like today’s going to be my lucky day!”

About The Author

Many moons ago—like, in 1983 while she was still a school librarian—Charlotte Hubbard sold her first story to True Story. This launched her into writing around seventy of those “true confessions” stories over the years, and she’s been a slave to her overactive imagination ever since. Over the course of her writing career, she has sold nearly 50 books—most recently, Amish romance series she’s written as Charlotte Hubbard or Naomi King.
Charlotte lived in Missouri for most of her life, so her Amish stories are set in imaginary Missouri towns. These days she lives in St. Paul, MN with her husband of 40 years and their Border collie, Ramona.

My Review:

We are back at Promise Lodge and are attending Noah and Deborah’s wedding; we read their story in the first book of The Promise Lodge series. The things that are said by the Bishop at this wedding are with us until the end of the book.
We have several new romances that have been on going and new ones that are in their infancy as we begin this book, and some are lasting and others are a figment of one person’s imagination. For Mattie and Amos you want them to have a happy life, and rekindle the love that was stolen from them in their youth, and there are others that seem destined to be denied.
Amos and the Bishop are both about to endure a very difficult time and trail, and as the book closes we still don’t know the outcome for one of them. You will witness the strong faith these people live, and for me I yearned to live amongst them. Wonder if they have any openings?
Once that cover is turned on this one you won’t want to put it down.
I received this book through Net Galley, the Publisher Kensington, and the Author, and was not required to give a positive review.
