The Treasure of Kefer Shimon

Title: The Treasure of Kefer Shimon
Author: Clifford Stevens
Publisher: iUniverse
Pages: 344
Genre: Men’s Adventure
Format: Ebook
Purchase at AMAZON

The Treasure of Kefer Shimon is the story of a young American priest given a secret assignment by the Vatican to track down the source of three ancient scrolls that have come into the possession of the Holy Sea. If the scrolls are genuine, they will cause a revolution in Biblical studies. Along the way he makes many startling and shocking discoveries deliberately kept hidden for centuries.
Filled with historical fact masterfully woven with fiction, it takes David Lavarans on a journey into the secret dealings of the Vatican, into the ancient archives of a medieval Pope, into a Middle Eastern monastery, and into the Arabian Desert. Here, he makes a shocking discovery that has been kept hidden since the time of Christ. If revealed, the ramifications will rock biblical scholars and historians.
David is neither heroic nor a pursuer of power. He is simply a young parish priest completely unaware of why he, among thousands of more prominent priests, is singled out for this mission by someone more powerful than the Pope himself.
Ancient scrolls, the high ranks of the Vatican, a young American priest, the Middle East, and secrets that will shake the world of Christianity and the interpretation of the New Testament all play a role in this intriguing biblical adventure which spans 2,000 years.

While spending time with army officers and war department officials in her aunt and uncle’s palatial home, Madeline overhears plans for Confederate attacks against the Union soldiers. She knows passing along this information may save the life of her beloved James, but at what cost? Can she really betray the trust of her family and friends? About The Author

Mary Ellis grew up close to the eastern Ohio Amish community, Geauga County, where her parents often took her to farmer's markets and woodworking fairs. She loved their peaceful, agrarian lifestyle, their respect for the land, and their strong sense of Christian community.
She and her husband now live close to the largest population of Amish in the country--a four-county area in central Ohio. They often take weekend trips to purchase produce, meet Amish families, and enjoy a simpler way of life.
Mary enjoys reading, traveling, gardening, bicycling and swimming. But her favorite past-time is snorkeling, which she seldom gets to do living in Ohio. She is a former middle school teacher and a former saleswoman for the world's best chocolate company. Now she writes full-time and wonders why her house is still dusty and her garden has so many weeds.

My Review:

The Lady and The Officer, takes place during the Civil War, a war that tore our Country apart. This is Madeline Howards story, and a remarkable woman she was, loosing her new husband to the war, then loosing her home, and livelihood, she embarks across enemy lines to stay with the only family she has remaining, in the Capital of the Confederacy, Richmond Va.
With her loyalties lying with the North she is now living with her Aunt and Uncle and Cousin in the South. Not only that, but her Uncle works directly with Jefferson Davis, President of The Confederacy. Before she left the North she had an encounter with a Union General, James Dowling, and now she is in the South with Col Elliot Haywood, the only patient, her one-day of nursing, she saved.
Now there are two men who are vying for her, and it takes until the end of the book to find out whom God has chosen for her. I loved seeing how these people lived during this tough time, Madeline’s family are rather well off, but times and circumstances of the War sure change things. With all the death, and hardships that War brings, we watch these people dig in and give to those who are less fortunate. There are also tidbits of real facts about what is going on at this time, such a black mark on our beloved Country.
We of course, living way in the future from this time, know what happens, and who wins, but in a way everyone was a looser. I felt the only way any of them survived was because of their great faith in God, no mater which church they worshiped in.
Journey with Madeline on this historic visit and decisions that alter all of their lives, you will be glad you picked up this book.

The Amish Nanny by Patricia Davids

A Family in Need
A reclusive Amish logger, Ethan Gingerich is more confortable around his draft horses than the orphaned niece and nephew he's taken in. Yet he's determined to provide the children with a good, loving home. The little ones, including a defiant eight-year-old, need a proper nanny. But when Ethan hires shy Amishwoman Clara Barkman, he never expects her temporary position to have such a lasting hold on all of them. Now this man of few words must convince Clara she's found her forever home and family.

About The Author

Patricia Davids is an award winning author of more than 20 Inspirational and Amish romance novels. Her book, A Home for Hannah, won the Romantic Times Review's Choice Award for Best Love Inspired Novel of 2012. She was a finalist in the Review's Choice Awards and the National Reader's Choice Awards in 2011. She has sold nearly 2,000,000 books world-wide since her debut novel in 2006. Born and raised in central Kansas, Patricia has found a way to combine her Midwest values and sense of humor into emotionally rich novels that deal with contemporary subjects. Her Amish novels have become increasingly popular with readers who are looking for stories with a bit of nostalgia, a sweet romance, and a measure of faith in our turbulent world. Patricia currently resides with her family and her dog in Wichita, Kansas.
Patricia is a popular speaker for many kinds of groups. Drop her an email if you would like to find out more about having her speak to your group.

My Review:

Once burned twice shy sure applies to this story, and in particular to Ethan Gingerich, and his outlook on taking a wife. In away it also applies to shy and horribly abused Clara Barkman, no child should have to live under the conditions that she and her sisters endured.
Now things have changed and God has answered her prayers, they are living a happy life with her Grandfather. Each of the girls is moving on with their lives and one is on track to be married soon. Clara has set her hopes of becoming the new teacher at the local Amish school, and is one of four candidates for the job.
In a horrible turn of events Ethan is now the Uncle/Father to his brothers three children, when their parents are tragically killed. See how he takes care of these children and being a bachelor and his logging job. One can guess with the title of the book, but you will never see what happens here and how these children act. Some of their antics will shock you, and others will have you really laughing, but don’t miss this sweet read.
I really enjoyed this fast paced Amish read, and it brought to light that all cultures have some hidden dealings that no one wants to know about, swept under the rug, and hard to bring out in the open.
I received this book through the publisher Love Inspired and Net Galley, and was not required to give a positive review.

The Butterfly and the Violin (Hidden Masterpiece, #1) by Kristy Cambron

The Butterfly and the Violin

The Butterfly and the Violin
A mysterious painting breathes hope and beauty into the darkest corners of Auschwitz—and the loneliest hearts of Manhattan.
Manhattan art dealer Sera James watched her world crumble at the altar two years ago, and her heart is still fragile. Her desire for distraction reignites a passion for a mysterious portrait she first saw as a young girl—a painting of a young violinist with piercing blue eyes.
In her search for the painting, Sera crosses paths with William Hanover, the grandson of a wealthy California real estate mogul, who may be the key to uncovering the hidden masterpiece. Together, Sera and William slowly unravel the story behind the painting’s subject: Austrian violinist Adele Von Bron.
A darling of the Austrian aristocracy, talented violinist, and daughter to a high-ranking member of the Third Reich, Adele risks everything when she begins smuggling Jews out of Vienna. In a heartbeat, her life of prosperity and privilege dissolves into a world of starvation and barbed wire.
As Sera untangles the secrets behind the painting, she finds beauty in the most unlikely of places: in the grim camps of Auschwitz and in the inner recesses of her own troubled heart.

Kristy makes her home in Indiana with her husband and three football-loving sons.

My Review:

Everyone should read this book, a fictional, but true story. The horrors of Hitler’s world, and the acceptance by many that willingly followed him, like lemmings going off a cliff. We put faces to these people, although they really could have a thousand different ones.
A memory of a painting observed by an eight-year-old girl, becomes a life passion, and we become witnesses to how it came to be. Add in a family in possession of a copy of this same painting, thought to be the original, and we have a basis of the story.
Sera James owns a Manhattan Art Gallery, and has a passion to find this picture she only glimpsed once. When her assistant finds it, or think she does, Sera heads to California and meets William Hanover III. So begins a chance romance, but it is not the main romance, there is another in this story. One that has to do with the Vienna’s Philharmonic, and the lives of compassionate and gifted performers who with God’s help eyes are opened to what is going on in their country. Vladimir and Adele are the Austrian side of this story, and what they do that lands them in Auschwitz.
We change to different time periods in this book, and you keep hoping while knowing all the while what is about to happen. Hoping you are wrong, but the time was too horrible, that even the German’s tried to destroy all of the evidence. I so enjoyed this book, and even wanted more, not to be in the prison camp, but to see the three blinks of eyelids.
You won’t go wrong with this one, and it will keep you up trying to get to the end to find a conclusion, will anyone survive? Everyone’s life is about to be changed! I gave this book the top five stars, but it is worth much more!

Pump Up Your Book Presents The New Reality Virtual Book Publicity Tour

The New Reality banner

Pump Up Your Book is pleased to bring you Stephen Martino’s The New Reality virtual book tour July 7-31!

The New Reality 2

Title: The New Reality
Author: Stephen Martino
Publisher: Light Messages
Pages: 333
Genre: Thriller
Format: Paperback/Kindle
Alex Pella, an acclaimed neuroscientist and the hero of the new medical thriller, THE NEW REALITY, finds himself racing across the globe to find a cure for a rapidly spreading illness threatening to end all of humanity. To combat this worldwide pandemic, Pella and his colleagues must use modern science in an attempt to decipher a code hidden by God within the original pages of the Bible.
THE NEW REALITY is the first book in a projected trilogy starring Alex Pella, created by New Jersey-based neurologist Stephen Martino. With his mixture of medicine, politics, biblical riddles, and futuristic science, Martino joins such masters of the medical thriller genre as Dan Brown, Michael Crichton, and Robin Cook.
Martino’s villain is a deadly retrovirus accidentally unleashed on the world in the year 2080, a time when no country is financially equipped to deal with such a disaster. It’s up to Pella and NIH expert Marissa Ambrosia to lead the search for a cure while fending off an elite foreign military unit sent to stop them. The scientists, guided by an ancient code concealed within the Hebrew text of the Old Testament, traverse ancient lands in an attempt to solve a biblical riddle and save humanity from total extinction.
Martino says he wrote THE NEW REALITY “more than just to entertain the reader. I really wanted to create a novel with substance, like (Brown’s) THE DA VINCI CODE or (Crichton’s) JURASSIC PARK. These books not only tell a fantastic story, but they also make the reader think.”
In THE NEW REALITY, Martino has included such hot-button contemporary topics as genetic manipulation, gene therapy, unprecedented economic debt, and the rise of big government, combining them with more esoteric subjects such as the Bible Code and the mysteries hidden in the Book of Revelation.
The Bible Code, Martino explains, does exist and was discovered by Dr. Eli Rips, a mathematician in quantum physics. The code has been confirmed by mathematicians at Yale, Harvard, and Hebrew University, as well as by peer-reviewed mathematical journals and the Pentagon. The code, Martino continues, is found in the original Hebrew version of the first five books of the Old Testament, called the Torah, and only in its untranslated, Hebrew form.
All of these elements, Martino maintains, separate his book from the pack. He calls THE NEW REALITY “issue-oriented fiction. There are real concerns facing society today that threaten both the sovereignty and prosperity of our future generations. Though fictional, my novel addresses some of these issues and predicts the potential consequences we face as a nation if they are not properly addressed today.”

First Impressions: An Amish Tale of Pride and Prejudice by Sarah Price

Will pride and prejudice keep the Blank sisters from finding love?

With five daughters and no sons, Daed and Maem Blank are anxious to find their girls suitors who might eventually take over their family farm. When news arrives that Charles Beachey, the son of a prominent Amish farmer, will be returning from Ohio with his cousin Frederick, they are hopeful that the young men might be good matches for their daughters.

The oldest daughter, Jane, starts courting Charles, a well-mannered and very respectful young man, but her younger sister Lizzie is not interested in either courtship or Frederick. In fact, she wants nothing to do with him, finding him full of pride and disdain for her family’s way of life. But in a community and culture where pride is scorned, Lizzie must learn that first impressions can be dangerous and people are not always who they seem to be.

This Amish retelling of the popular Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice is a beautiful take on the power of love to overcome class boundaries and prejudices that will win your heart.

About The Author

There is something magical about getting a second chance in life to learn, live, and love. I think that best describes who I am as a person, a friend, a mother, and a wife.
sarah 2I have been writing ever since I learned how to hold a pencil.  As a child, I wrote a story about a family of gnomes, painstakingly handwriting each story in a blue covered journal.  When I was older, I learned how to type on an electric typewriter, spending my summers and weekends plucking at the keys until the early morning hours, much to my older sister’s chagrin.
Most of my stories focused around cultures, learning about different societies within our own.  I wrote about homeless people, gypsies, the circus, and the Amish.  It was natural that I focused on the Amish.  I was raised by a family with a rich history in Pennsylvania.  In the early 1700′s, my ancestors came over from Europe and settled in an area that grew into one of the largest Anabaptist communities in the nation. I loved diving into these cultures, studying the people and the environment in order to write about the people who lived among them.  I traveled a lot, a careful blend of Europe, South America, and the Caribbean.  When I traveled, I would escape the tourist track and immerse myself in local haunts, observing the people and writing in my journals.
Unfortunately, life happens and, during the struggles of my first marriage, the fiction writing tapered to a trickle.  But we learn from obstacles and difficulties, often finding new pieces of ourselves that we didn’t even know existed.  The good news is that once you are a writer, you are always a writer.
When I settled into my new life with my second husband, I dusted off the manuscripts and returned to the screen.  Luckily, my husband has been very supportive and helps with brainstorming, writing, and editing.  He had been crucial to the success of my publishing these works.
I have advanced degrees in Marketing, Communication, and (soon) a PhD in Leadership. I use the name Sarah Price as an honor to my grandmother and my family, the Priess family, who came over to America in the very early 1700s aboard an old sailing vessel called the Patience.
In addition, I am beginning to speak out about my battle with breast cancer ( and my own experiences with domestic violence and being bullied, specifically with horrendous cyberbullying conducted against me and several of my friends and family by another author.
There will be many additions to my library in the upcoming months and years. I hope you enjoy the journey with me.

My Review:

Read in July, 2014

I loved First Impressions, and am very guilty of this sin, and have regretted it a number of times. I have told others that I am quick to judge, and then silently regret my impression, and was told I am not alone.
Yes this story is about the decision to judge, and very quickly at that, which I guess I do too. The first time you meet someone, and ah how wrong you can be, and that is exactly what Elizabeth “Lizzie” Blank does when Frederick Detweiler comes to Lancaster Amish Community. Lizzie’s Mother has five daughters and is anxious to have them married of, what a desire for a mother. She doesn’t seem to care who they marry, of course they must be Amish, but age, looks, and jobs have nothing to do with it. Thank goodness her Dad is a smart and wonderful man, and in this patriarchal society is the final word.
This is a very interesting story and you never see where help is coming from, and was thoroughly surprised. You will love this book, it keeps you hopping and your heart will break and heal. The story is based on the original Pride and Prejudice, and now that is in my to be read pile, TBR. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

I received this book from the Publisher Realms and the Author Sarah Price and was not required to give a positive review.
