My Review

 I enjoyed each of these quick read novellas, and they kept my attention, just wished that they were a little longer!
Each story involves a broken relationship, although for very different reasons.
The first story "Do You See What I See?" at times had my heart in my throat, there is a lot of danger, especially with young children involved!
The second "Do You Hear What I Hear?", a young lawyer awakes to find her ex sleeping in her home! There is so much going on here and she needs help, will they make it in time?
The third "Do You Know What I Know?" and we are in Alaska/Louisiana, and again we are with a broken relationship, but there is a lot more going on here. We are offered betrayal, cooking competition, and danger.
These are great Christian reads, with a theme of forgiveness!

My Review

 Sadie Lynch inherits her Great Aunts Candle Shop, a big surprised she didn't know this aunt. Not only did she not know her Aunt, but finds out big surprises about her Grandmother and her life.
She is new in town and the local Amish minister is insistent she sell, and weird threatening notes start appearing.
I loved how many lives this young women touches in such a short time of being in this town, and she makes some dear friends, that go out of their way to help her.
The author weaves in danger, Amish friends, and Amish danger, along with some sweet romance! Yes, I was page turning for answers!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.

Hello and welcome to my author page. Let me tell you a little about myself, as that seems to be the main purpose of this profile. Believe it or not, I began my fiction career in the third grade when I told my class that a little sister I never had died of a black widow bite. I also wrote books through my teen years, always about a girl whose mother mistreated her by making her wash dishes, sweep the floor... you get the idea. Never finished any of those stories. But the idea of writing a real book and publishing it never occurred to me. It was a particularly vivid dream that drove me to drag out a portable typewriter and go to work on my first novel. In 1990 my second completed book, Tender Touch, brought me a first place win in a writing contest and the following year became a Golden Heart Finalist. That won me an agent and a contract from Kensington who published five of my western historical romance novels. My books have placed or won in other contests as well. Forever Mine received a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award nomination. I've always loved the Old West and I believe my novels reflect that emotion through their depth and vibrancy. My Review

 This is a read that sure has a lot of action, and at times ,the characters that I cared about, I wasn't sure they will make it to the end.
Meredith's brother runs a detective agency with his wife, and they seem to be doing well at their craft.
We are with this spunky girl as she tries to convince her brother to let her work with him, and we are there for part of her training, and when she does get into trouble.
Rolland is Meredith's childhood friend, and she has seen the trouble in his life that happens through his father.
The author gives us a lot in this quick read, sadly child abuse, bank robbers, women and girls being kidnapped, and family. Some sweet romance is also thrown in, and we are there for choices.
I will be looking for more from this author, she kept me on the edge of seat at times, and holding my breath at others.

My Review

A beautifully woven Christian read, that kept me page turning!
The story starts with a bang, a snowstorm in May, and continues, with some very hard life issues, but the finding of two hurt individuals to join the same path is heartwarming, if not rocky.
A lot of deceit happens in this read, past loves turning out not to be whom you thought they were.
The setting here is a beautiful Kansas ranch home, with a history, whether true or not.
The story does have a lot of action, some do get hurt, but the love of this community is wonderful!
I loved the ending, and sweet epilogue!

My Review

 This read was very well researched by the author. Three women, I had never heard of them previously, but got to know them quite well through the research done here. Be sure to read the author's notes.
Breaking ground in the early 1880's three women embark on their college careers, by entering Oberlin College, and being the first.
We see first hand the challenges these women face, and the outcome of their tenacity to achieve what others are determined they don't.
There is a lot of historical fiction here, and I enjoyed the fact that it is based on fact.
We get to have relationships with Mary, Anna and Ida, and loved the epilogue.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.

The battle lines we cannot see

The enemy seeks to divide us. And while there are wars to be fought, the battle lines often aren’t in the places that we think.

This is not the reason I started writing Worlds Collide. But in the more than ten years that I’ve been working on this trilogy, it has become the reason this story is the thing I most want to say to the world.

I started writing Worlds Collide because of a few ideas that came together at once. I had been reading a book that discussed five types of heroes: the selfless hero, the hero with a code, the charming hero, the cunning hero, and the sympathetic hero. I challenged myself to write a story featuring each type of hero as a way of better learning the archetypes.

Around the same time, I came up with the concept of different worlds being set on a collision course by their respective creators—cosmic beings in the forms of dragon, phoenix, lion, serpent, and wolf—as a “contest of the gods.” This idea came out of nowhere. At the time, I was working on a completely different story (that still has not been published). That evening, I took my wife on a walk, told her the concept, and she said, “This has to be the next thing you write.”

But as I wrote the story, these characters from different worlds started coming together in interesting ways. Each believed that they were doing the things they had to do to survive, to protect their own kind. The distance between them and the rival planets served to create a sense of “otherness” about the people inhabiting those worlds. It was easier to hate them when they were so far removed. And like most (if not all) instances of hate, it was rooted in fear.

The danger of division is a central theme in scripture. In Matthew 12:25 and Mark 3:24-25, Jesus states, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” The Greek word for the devil, diabolos, is derived from a verb that means “to throw apart” or “to scatter,” directly identifying his nature as a divider.

We see this division every day, much of it sparked by what we read online. Humans are designed to be in connection with each other, so the most deceptive way to subvert that innate design is to present the façade of increased connection that is actually voluntary isolation and polarization.

I’m not against the internet and social media, but it must be stated that the technologies that were supposed to bring more people together have achieved the opposite. They constantly present us with groups of people who—at a distance—appear to be dangerously opposed to everything we hold dear.

When we engage with so much of this content, we believe we’re learning more about people. But in truth, we’re only presented with algorithmically curated experiences that are incented to spark fear and outrage, emotions that lead to clicking and engaging. We are told that they are the enemy, that they are to blame, and that they will destroy our way of life. Then we’re told, “click here to read more.”

I wasn’t raised in church; I came to my faith during my teenage years. As a result, and due to a handful of other personal experiences, I’m comfortable in environments where I’m surrounded by people whose beliefs are very different than my own.

But here’s what has surprised me: I never feel like I need to hide my faith in these situations. When I engage such people in conversations from a place of love, respect, and genuine curiosity, they are almost always receptive. We find common ground. How could we not? Regardless of their beliefs, these people are created in the image of God, just like me. Through these interactions, I have created real friendships with people that might have never walked through the doors of my church (but that doesn’t mean I won’t try).

I’m not saying that I’m without my biases. I’m far from perfect. But when I manage to push past my perceived boundaries, I’m often amazed at what I discover on the other side.

As believers, we affirm that every person is made in the image of God. But we must ask ourselves—do our words, our posts, and our attitudes reflect that truth? Or have we, too, begun to see those who are unlike us primarily as enemies?

That tension is at the heart of Worlds Collide. As these characters begin to interact, they discover aspects of each other that they never would have expected. They start asking questions they were never meant to ask, and the answers challenge everything they have ever known.

We may not be on warring planets, but we are constantly being told where the battle lines are in our world, and that anybody on the other side of those lines is our enemy.

And when that happens, will we accept that as the truth? Or will we dare to step across those lines in love, courage, and faith to reach out our hands, as the Savior did for us?

The Husband Tree remains the book I am asked about the most when I talk to readers.

Or, if I get asked, which is your favorite character…someone inevitably says Belle Tanner.

There’s something about that woman.

The title of the book is based on the tree where she’s buried three worthless husbands. After Anthony died falling off the roof…where he was hiding from work as usual, she’s tossing dirt on his face while vowing to God and her children to never marry again.

She’s taught her girls to work hard at her side, but her main lesson is to teach them to avoid men at all costs. A warning that doesn’t survive, but not for lack of effort on Belle’s part.

Texas is known for its vastness and cities like Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. While those cities are great, there’s something about a small Texas town that stirs the heart and evokes a sense of community.

 

When I wrote Blue Jean Bayou, I wanted Shelton’s Cove to be one of those small towns that every reader would want to visit—where they’d find hundred-year-old farmhouses, wooden bridges that clack under the weight of vehicles, country diners where chicken-fried steak is standard fare, and salt-of-the-earth folks who look after their neighbors.

 

I also wanted characters who embody the Texas nature I know so well: brave men with strong faith and a staunch work ethic, and women who face life’s unexpected twists and turns with strength.

My Review

 This is a quick enjoyable read.
A 25 year old Amish women inherits her Grandmother's farm in Bird-In-Hand Pennsylvania. A women she barely remembers, leaving with her parents and moving to Ohio.
This young women would like answers, why did they leave, and why no contact?
Answers come, but the journey is soon filled with danger? Why?
Renee Mast and Jerome Graber meet, he has been taking care of her Grandmother's property, but he is a hurting individual. Can these to help one another?
I loved the epilogue, and wished we could stay longer here. Another great cozy read by Amy Cliptson!

My Review

 

I have been looking forward to this book, and it sure did not disappoint.
I loved being back with Tabitha, the Amish vet, and Jonas, but this relationship can go nowhere, because of her divorce. As this book starts Jonas has gone looking for a bride, no!
There is a big theme of forgiveness here, both for Tabitha and the Yoder's, but can they?
This is also Mimi's and Moses story, with Mimi wanting to be out doing men's work, and not being a typical Amish woman, and yes, Mimi and Tabitha are related!
This story has so many twists and turns, and just when you think questions are answered, no, and we are in for big surprises.
I loved the epilogue, only thing wrong was I hate for this series to end!
