Summer Reading Hub: June Activities, Reading Lists, & Freebies

Posted on June 1, 2020

School is out, and we’re ready for sun, sandals, and summer reading! We encourage you to explore how your local library is running its reading programs this summer, but if you don’t have access to one (or you want to add to the fun), My Reader Rewards is your online hub for summer reading activities and freebies. Each month during summer we’ll feature new activities, recommended reads, and free downloads for kids, tweens, and grown-ups, too! Here’s the June lineup. Check back in July and August for more reading-themed fun all summer long! (Remember, you can earn Reader Rewards points for books or other products purchased on Tyndale.com or NavPress.com!)

Kids

Activity: Finger Puppet Craft

Inspired by Wow!: The Gospel in Four Words, this fun and easy finger puppet craft can be used to remind you and your child of God’s amazing gospel plan. Plus, you can find more free resources to help your kids get excited about God’s good news here.

Tweens

Activity: Writing Letters

Writing letters can help your tweens rediscover a lost art form while taking a break from screens and messaging apps. Plus, it will bless the recipients of their letters, from friends who have moved away to elderly family members who could use some cheer. Far from being a boring task, letter writing can be a creative exercise to engage their imaginations—especially with fun stationary and letter-writing prompts!

Reading List:

Just Sayin’
Hunger Winter
Kirby McCook and the Jesus Chronicles
The Big Book of Bible Questions

Download: Letter Writing Prompts and Printable Stationary

Grown-ups

Activity: WWII Book Club

June’s theme revolves around World War II for a couple of reasons. We remember the anniversary of the D-Day invasion, also known as “the beginning of the end of the world in Europe” (history.com). We’re also celebrating the release of award-winning author Lynn Austin’s new novel, If I Were You.

You don’t need to start a book club to get more out of your reading this summer. Just grab a couple of friends and print out the discussion guide at the link below to spark conversation. Or, use it for your own personal reflection as you dive deeper into these stories. Join other fans of

WWII fiction (or nonfiction) and steep yourself in history this summer!
