He clicked and typed away, adding my suggestions to the group document. He’d loved my ideas ever since I scribbled a song on the wall when I was a toddler.
“Add ‘Candy helps design a new house’ to the family journal.” Daddy winked at me and handed me the blue fabric journal. I reached across the table, grabbed the old family relic, and wrote it down in my left-handed hand lettering before handing it back to him.
I wrote it down and doodled ideas in the shared family sketchbook of butterfly inspired rooms. I caught a glimpse of Mom’s sketch of the nursery and inwardly beamed as I thought about the shopping we’d have to do for the new baby too. I mean, fifteen felt like a weird time to be a big sister, but honestly, I loved the idea. I totally didn’t mind having a baby boy around the house.
“We need to date all the moments when you add your beautiful ideas to the family business.” Daddy placed one hand over mine. “Because one day, it’ll all be yours. Or well, yours and your brother’s.”
“Oh, Daddy.” I didn’t think I wanted to be in real estate, not that I’d break their hearts with that now.
