The Safety of the First Lady Rests in Shirley’s Hands
Shirley Davenport is as much a patriot as her four brothers. She, too, wants to aid her country in the war efforts, but opportunities for women are limited. When her best friend Joan informs her that the Coast Guard has opened a new branch for single women, they both enlist in the SPARs, ready to help protect the home front.
About The Author
What a captivating read the author has given us, from beginning to end this was a page turner.
We are given a glimpse into the life of a young woman living in Maine during WWII, and how her parents kept her sheltered, and how she spreads her wings and joins the woman's part of the Coast Guard [SPARS]. We see Shirley Davenport, and are walking in her shoes as she goes about her day, taking classes and even a spark of romance, we also see her compassion for her fellow classmates, no mater where they come from or who they are. She is vigilant of her surroundings and we see those in charge notice her.
There are a lot of surprises here, and some I never saw coming, others I suspected, but this is a great read of what could have happened in this country!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.
