Release Date: May 11, 2018
Genre: Christian, NonFiction, Bible Study

I'm living the dream in my fancy-pants world, and I've got the Instagram feed to prove it.

Who am I kidding? I'm literally holding it together with one more cup of coffee, yesterday's dry shampoo, and a prayer.

So I finally said enough. Enough of me. I'm bidding farewell to chasing emptiness and exchanging it for more of Jesus.

If we agree with Paul in Acts 20:24 that our lives are worth nothing unless we use them for finishing the work of telling others the Good News - where are we in our quest to get busy for Jesus? In our world of hashtags, hair color, and having it all together, chances are we aren't accomplishing much.

Enough of Me is an 8-week Bible study for women focused on what God's Word has to say about the tug-of-war between our flesh and our mission. The study explores the barriers that stand between where we are today and where God wants to use us to finish His work.

Do you have a nagging in your heart for more purpose? Are you right smack dab in the middle of a tug-of-war between your flesh and your mission?

Often we want to live out the purpose and mission God has for us, but we're too distracted, exhausted, and empty. Maybe it's time to say enough to the excuses, anxiety, and interruptions that get in our way. Could it be we're so busy chasing emptiness and playing the people-pleasing game, that we can't find time to live on mission?

It's time to take a deep breath and do some inventory. Let's dig in and see what God's Word has to say about this tug-of-war between our flesh and our mission. Let's figure out ways to quit chasing emptiness and take bold steps of obedience. Let's discover how we can glorify God and steer people to Jesus in our cubicles, at our dinner tables, in our mom-groups, and with people we encounter every day.

What would happen if we said Enough of Me . . . more Jesus.

 Excerpt:

I did a cartwheel last week. And it was epic, in a “pulled a hammy” kind of way.

My six-year-old diva of a daughter was practicing her cartwheel in our living room, and it was the most pathetic thing I had seen on my shag rug in a long time.

“Hand, hand, foot, foot, sister! Whip those legs around—you can do it!” I shouted to her with encouragement in the best mom-coach voice I could dig up after witnessing the state of her cartwheel.

Her feet were barely leaving the floor and her lack of effort was killing me. So, without thinking it through, I stood up, tucked my shirt in, and showed her what a real cartwheel looks like. At least I thought I did. That was certainly my intention.

My hands did hit the floor. My legs did fly through the air. But I’m not sure I pulled off perfection in legit cartwheel standards.

And, oh by the way, I will never be the same. Ever.

Back in the day (early 1990’s if you’re keeping score), I was that girl. The cheerleader that could throw back-hand-springs for days on the track during a football game. I know, it’s funny. I tumbled and cheered my way through high school, and the one thing I knew for sure was how to complete the perfect cartwheel. So, showing my six-year-old how to do a cartwheel isn’t that crazy, is it? Maybe if it hadn’t been twentyish years ago and I wasn’t a pound or two heavier.

I was not the spring chicken I thought I was in my mind. Truth be told, I hadn’t even spelled the word cartwheel in two decades.

Reality check—I am not who I once was.

And neither are you.

If we’re dissecting our excuses this week, I think this one sits high on our list of excuses.

God can’t use me. You don’t know who I am, what I’ve done, where I’ve been.

You are so right, sister. I don’t know. But God does, and He couldn’t care less because that girl is long gone.

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. – Galatians 2:20-21 (NLT)
