My Review

Love’s Faithful Promise is Book 3 in the Courage to Dream series, and you will not be disappointed at all, it is an awesome addition to the first two books, and if your like me, when it is ended you will be wanting more!
This is Deidre O’Leary’s story the nurse who wants desperately to become a doctor, and at the early part of the twenty-century it was a very difficult task. This story begins with her mother having a stroke and her desire to get her the best possible help, and when Dr. Matthew Clayborn is located in Toronto Canada, she is sent on a mission to convince him to come to help. So the paths of these two individuals are set into motion, and their fate rests within them, and all that love them.
Deidre with her dreams, and Matthew with his feeling of failure, and a loveless marriage behind him, but his little daughter may just be the answer to all that is going on between them.
There is also a new hired hand on the ranch, and another member of the family is about to open their own doors.
A great read, and the only bad part was coming to the end and turning the last page.

My Review

We are back with our unusual couple, Amanda and Alejandro, she grew up Amish and he has a Cuban background, she plain and he a national rock star, two unlikely people, but a successful couple.
Alejandro’s mother has arrived and has begun her Christmas preparations when Amanda receives a letter requesting her and the family to come home to Pennsylvania for Christmas. Sounds impossible with all the plans that have already been made, but Alejandro can never refuse Amanda, and so the family heads to Amish Country, and life is about to change for this family.
Come enjoy a simple Christmas and the true meaning of the Holiday, and along the way enjoy the happenings that bring this family closer. The sixth book in this series and this one is one of the best, I really enjoyed it.

My Review

This is the second book in the Prince Edward Island Dreams series that I have read, and I enjoyed this one as much as the first, and can’t wait for the next one to come out.
We are back with Marie and Seth, and Caden Holt is their chef, and if I could only eat the words, the food sounds so so good, but an old nemesis is back in town, Bethany, and she wants to take Caden’s job. Of course Caden is insecure, and seems to think that Bethany might be able to steal her job, what can she do?
When Marie asks Caden to show their guest Adam Jacobs around the Island, she has to come out of her shell to try and help save the Inn, but she gets more than she has bargained for.
While Adam fights his demons, he has to come to terms with several deaths that he blames himself for, and there are other visitors to the Inn that might just be able to help him, if he will let them.
Come and enjoy a beautiful area of our World, a bit of romance, and a lot of delicious cooking.

Christian's Hope (Return to Northkill, #3) by Ervin R. Stutzman

Christian’s Hope (Herald Press, October 2016)
When Christian Hochstetler returns to the Amish after seven years in captivity, he finds that many things have shifted.
Captured as a child during the French and Indian War, Christian has spent much of his life among Native Americans, who cared for him and taught him their ways. Now that Christian is home, his father wants him to settle back into their predictable Amish life of farming, and Christian’s budding friendship with Orpha Rupp beckons him to stay as well.
Yet Christian feels restless, and he misses his adoptive Native American family—who raised him as their own son. When faced with a life-altering decision, will Christian choose the Amish identity that his father desires for him? Or will he depart from his family and faith community yet again?
Christian’s Hope tells the story of the younger brother of Joseph and son of Jacob, whom readers have come to love in the first two books in the Return to Northkill series. Based on actual events and written by a descendant of the Hochstetler family, Christian’s Hope brings the sweeping epic of the Return to Northkill series to a soul-stirring end.

My Review

This is the third book in this story, based on real people, with an Historical Notes at the end telling what really happened in Christian’s life, love that this was included.
While we are dealing with the author’s interpretation of events, we try to walk in Christian’s shoes, and we are now ripped from the home we have spent the last seven years in, coming to terms to being an Indian. Now he is back at his Amish roots, he has to relive the murder of his mother and siblings, and try to find his way, all the while longing to be back in the security of the Indian village.
What a mind dilemma he must have faced, where would your loyalties be place, and how would you live, and how will his former community receive him? Being used to sleeping in a teepee and now he can hardly stand to enter a house, and then the reminder of his family and their graves.
There is a bit of romance here, he longs to see his Indian maiden, and then he meets a Dunkard, a form of the Brethren, Orpha Rupp, and you will wonder how this is going to play out, Mountain Dew or Orpha.
A very different Amish based story, one that traces its roots back to the original settlers to this country, and how they lived and embraced their religion.

Be ready for danger to assault around every corner, or so it seemed, and Dear Aunt Martha, seems to be in the target as well as her niece Serena. This book is another of Serena’s adventures, and this one is going to leave you wanting more, and yes some big questions are going to be answered.
There are two men casually, or a bit more, vying for Serena’s attention, or are they, yes and no, but you will have to make up your own mind.
You are going to be wondering who the culprits are right up to the end; I kept changing my mind, and was really surprised at who is really the bad guy! Even when she is shopping, no one is safe, and Zoe, her best friend is even afraid to be around her.
Once you pick this one up your ready for a big adventure, and a bumpy ride right to the end, with a page turning read.

Excerpt
Before the witch could move, a shadow crashed through the hole in the collapsed roof, snarling and growling. Simultaneously, the cottage door flew open, nearly ripping from its hinges, and something ran into the room moving faster than I could track it. A second later, a person flew in from a side window, landing on the floor with a grunt, rolling and then popping up into a fighting stance. This last addition was Will, sword pulled, ready for a fight. The other two took me a second because my mind still wasn’t used to their appearance. Daniel had dropped in from the roof, but he was in his werewolf form. Up on his hind legs, he clawed the air in front of him, lines of saliva dripping from his long snout. The shadow that had rushed in from the door was Eva. She stood near the fire, but even in the glow of the flames, her skin appeared pure white, almost translucent. Her posture was perfect, her back slightly arched. Chin out, she stared down the witch as if challenging her to one-on-one combat. “What took you guys so long?” I asked. “Oh, I don’t know. You sneaking out without telling anyone. And then trying to cover your tracks,” Will said. “You’re a real bonehead. You know that, right?” “He knows,” Eva said. “Everyone knows.” “Thanks,” I said. “I kind of liked it better when it was just me and Bella.” “Really, looked to me like she was about to let you have it. If you want, we could just leave and –” “Enough,” the witch yelled, sending the flames higher in the fireplace. “This changes nothing. You think you are any match for me?” “I don’t know,” Eva said. “You’re looking pretty beat up to me. I feel like I might be able to get a little payback for last time.” Daniel snarled, chomping the air with his teeth in agreement. The last time we’d had a run-in with Bella of the Woods, she’d easily mopped the floor with Eva and Daniel. I wondered if her ragged appearance meant she was less powerful now – or just more desperate and dangerous. “We don’t have to do this,” I said. “We all want the same thing.” “That’s where you’re wrong, Templar,” the witch said. “You want to save your friends. Save your father. Save the world by stopping Ren Lucre’s mad plan to start an open war against humans all over the world. All I want is to have my son back.” I lowered my sword, hoping to buy more time. “You can’t get him back,” I said softly. “I think you must know that by now, even if you don’t want to admit it. Look at all of your attempts,” I said, pointing to the stack of Talib heads against the wall. They all stared, wide-eyed, their mouths opening and closing like fish out of water gasping for air. “That’s not your son. Not really. And you know it never will be.” The witch hunched over slowly as if each word I said made her chest ache more. I decided to make my final appeal. “I said this to you last time I was here. If you can’t bring your son back, at least let me take my best shot at avenging his death. Let me have the Jerusalem Stone back so I can continue my quest to defeat Ren Lucre once and for all.” The witch’s head twitched to the side as if she heard a new noise. Her lips curled into a cruel grin. “Sorry, Jack. That’s not what I had in mind.” With a high-pitched scream, she pointed her hands at Eva and Daniel. The two of them blew backward as if a battering ram had run into them. That instant, Will was on the move. He was in the air as the witch turned to him, but he’d been just fast enough. He landed both feet on the witch’s chest, kicking her backward. The dozens of Talib heads opened their mouths, and their screams joined the witch’s. I lunged forward, ducking as she spun around, the hand with the Jerusalem Stone stretched out toward me. I felt a surge of energy pass over my head like a solid thing. No doubt, if I hadn’t ducked, it would have taken my head clean off my shoulders. I rolled onto the ground and used my momentum to crash into the witch’s legs. It wasn’t the most graceful move, but it worked. The witch tumbled over, her hand with the Jerusalem Stone smashing into the stone hearth. The Stone rolled out of her hand and into the fireplace. “Bella, don’t!” I yelled. Too late.

Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity in the Midst of Life's Storms by Tim Tebow

First, he was a beloved college football champion, Heisman trophy winner, media sensation, and best-selling author drafted in the first round of the 2010 Draft. Then he had a miracle playoff run with the Denver Broncos before being traded to the New York Jets. After one season he was cut by New York. Next he was signed by the New England Patriots then let go after training camp—a scenario that repeated itself the following summer with the Philadelphia Eagles. Tim Tebow has achieved big victories and plunged the depths of failure, all while never letting go of his faith, even in the face of doubt and disappointment. In Shaken he explains why neither the highs nor the lows of his life can define him—and he reveals how you, too, can find confidence in your identity and know who you are. In revealing passages, Tebow pulls back the curtain on his life, sharing the vulnerable moments of his career that have shaken him to his core—while also teaching the biblical principles that will enable you to keep the faith, no matter what comes your way.

My Review

I have long admired Tim Tewbow, taking a knee to show his love of the Lord, not to down our Country.
Tim Tewbow lives his faith on his sleeve, and this book only made my respect for him go higher. I loved how Tim points out in Chapter 7, What Is Normal, a young girl going through her life with CP, and accepting all that she has been handed and just figured she was normal and this is the way it is, which is true, until a bully raised their head.
While reading this book you might want to have some tissues handy, when we get to the part at the prison and death row, awe I loved Cell 4 on they suicide watch. God using people that love him, and sharing his word, what more can we want!
This story is really not about football, and yet it is part of Tim, as we journey with him and his special love of kids and working with WI5H, what a heart he has for them, and loved his sharing them with us.
We begin with Tim’s early life to the present as he shares his gifts with us and how he goes about doing what he feels the Lord would want him to do, a book you will not want to put down.

She has been a contributor to many books, including The New Women’s Devotional Bible and Pearl Girls: Encountering Grit, Experiencing Grace. She has written for Focus on the Family, Christian Parenting Today, and many other publications.
Deb married Randy Kalmbach at 19. They thought all they needed was love—and the possessions they could fit in their metallic blue VW bug! What they didn’t realize was how much it would take to live with adversity, disappointment and heartache. They never imagined their journey taking them into the depths of addiction with Randy battling alcoholism for almost 30 years before he experienced the miracle of sobriety.
Deb isn’t just theorizing when she gives hope and practical solutions to those who struggle with difficult relationships. Her own brokenness has given her great compassion and insight for others who are hurting. With her vibrant and engaging manner, she speaks profoundly about God’s faithfulness and how to embrace a God-honoring life in the midst of almost unbearable circumstances. Deb and Randy are grateful beyond words for their 45 years of “not-so-perfect” marriage.
They make their home in rural Washington State with Kosmo, their lively Jack Russell Terrier. They have two amazing sons, a lovely daughter-in-law, and a sweet 3- year old granddaughter.

My Review

As soon as I received this darling book I read it to my two grandsons, and we all oohed and awed at the drawings, and we all loved the pictures of Kozmo’s tail.
What a perfect Christmas adventure for a dog, wonder if he learned anything about what happened to him. My boys loved that he is a terrier, we have two Rat Terriers and my sister two Jack Russell’s, and their curiosity seems to get them in trouble.
Is there a lesson here? Yes, and what a great learning tool for the boys, what if one of them weren’t here, the other would definitely miss the other. Poor Kramer they said as each petted one of our dogs, and stated that they thought they knew how he was feeling.
They did learn that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence, and that a scary person isn’t always scary.
A really sweet read to share with someone or ones special

The tone deaf jerk’s days are numbered. There’s only one hitch: Marcus already offered their services elsewhere. A stray cat with serious aggression issues apparently has a whole neighborhood boarding up their windows. What the boys think will be an easy-money job quickly turns into a dangerous game of wits. The cat’s a monster. It takes all the ingenuity the boys can muster to deal with this beast. Two targets at once. Clicking on the video link, Marcus pulled up a shaky image of a street lined with houses. “Isn’t that Oak Street?” I asked. “Yeah, looks like it. That’s only a couple miles away. But just wait until you see this.” “Oh… wow!” The wow practically fell out of my mouth as a dog-sized cat leaped out at a kid on a bike. The cat swiped at the bike tires, instantly flattening one. The kid toppled over, got up, and ran. A mailman came into the picture. He saw the cat and stopped. The cat saw him and charged. Mail flew into the air. The cat headed straight for the mailman’s leg. Orange fur flew. We didn’t have sound, but the mailman’s mouth opened with a scream. He started kicking but the cat had his leg. He swung his bag and knocked the cat off him. The guy ran, his shredded pants leg flapping. The cat shook himself off then started prowling straight toward the camera. Shaky-cam went ultra shaky. The cat lunged and everything froze with giant white fangs headed for the camera. Marcus swiveled his chair so he could face me. “Look, I know Gunner is a problem for you, and I’m fully on board with getting that guy out of the picture. But dude, if the Revengers take care of this cat, our reputation will explode.” “Yeah, Gunner’ll have to wait. Let’s go check out this killer cat.” We grabbed our bikes and headed for Oak Street.

Excerpt
“Nma, so where’s this husband you keep saying you have?” Abayomi heard the man say as he approached.
Olanma giggled and then abruptly stopped. Abayomi knew that in that moment she sensed his presence. She turned sideways, but the man she was with was so busy checking her out that he didn’t see Abayomi walk up.
“If he’s not taking care of…”
“I hear you’re looking for me and I take care of my wife just fine.” Abayomi came to a halt between Olanma and the man.
The look of shock on both their faces was satisfying. Nma? He couldn’t believe she allowed another man to call her that. Not even her father called her “beauty.” Only two people had that privilege – he and her grandmother. Or so he thought.
Abayomi snaked his arm around his wife’s waist and kissed her hair. He then stretched out his other hand to the man. “Abayomi Rice, said husband.”
The expression on the man’s face switched from shock to embarrassment. At least he had some shame.
After a few moments, he heard his wife say, “Yomi, this is Emeka Maduka, an old friend.”
Old friend? That’s what she thought. The man wanted her. Abayomi wasn’t fooled. He wrote the book on old friends. It was time to cut this little reunion short. “It was nice meeting you. I’ll take my wife now.”
Abayomi didn’t wait for a response before he ushered Olanma out of the ballroom. He found a secluded area where they could talk. He stared at her and began to pace. He had never been good at hiding his possessive nature.
“Yomi, that was rude and what are you doing here?” Olanma asked in a hushed whisper.
“Apparently, reminding you that you’re still my wife.”
She stared at him in disbelief. “No, I’m not doing this with you.”
“Really? Nma,” Abayomi said, his tone laced with irritation and sarcasm.
“You’ve got some nerve. You pop into Lagos two days ago, and then you don’t come home…” Her voice was shaky with rage. “I’m not doing this with you. Not here.” She began to walk away.
Abayomi exhaled. He was messing this up. “Olanma, wait.”
She stopped, but didn’t turn around.
“I’m sorry. I saw him touch you and then you laughed with him. I haven’t heard that sound in ages and I saw red.”
He hadn’t meant to reveal all that, but masked feelings were what had brought them to this point. If there was going to be a chance for them, they would have to lay down the masks. And since he was the one that was served with divorce papers, he had to take the first step. His prayer was that his vulnerability would lead them back to the intimacy they once shared. Where their souls were tied as one and hopefully rebuild their trust. He hoped she would see that.
Olanma walked back to him and stared at him intently. “It’s been a year. What did you expect? That I’d curl up and die?” She turned and walked away.
Her heated eyes showed him her soul. She was hurt, but so was he. This wasn’t what he imagined for them. Past the pain and anger he saw in her eyes, he also saw longing and love. It was clearer to him that restoring his marriage would be an uphill battle. Losing, however, wasn’t an option.
