My rating: 5 of 5 stars
About the Book
A storm the size of Texas brews when Gloria Powell and Kai Chang meet in a Dallas hotel. They have come to discuss the future of Lily, the daughter Gloria adopted from China and the sister Kai hopes to reclaim. Kai is a doctor who had to give up her little sister during the Cultural Revolution and has since discovered that an inherited genetic defect may be waiting to fatally strike Lily.
Gloria's relationship with her daughter is tattered and strained, and the arrival of Kai, despite the woman's apparent good intentions, makes Gloria fearful. Gloria longs to restore her relationship with Lily, but in the wake of this potentially devastating diagnosis, is Kai an answer to prayer...or will her arrival force Gloria to sacrifice more than she ever imagined?

I loved this book...I could not put this one down. Patti Lacy brings you face to face with the Chinese daily life. You put a face on the pain these poor people went through, I can't even imagine taking that way of life in my every day stride!
Kai Chang had to take the beloved fourth daughter to the orphanage, and spent many a day there helping to make sure that Lily was well taken care of. She was there the day the Powell's came and stole her away. She then has to endure her beloved mother die a painful death of Polycystic kidney disease, and now knows that it is inherited. She spends her life looking for her Lily, and becoming a Dr to help people with this devastating illness.
Grace and Rev Andrew Powell were ecstatic to be in China to finally get their baby. They wait and then are told there are no babies at this time. Then Grace see a girl of about 8 or maybe 10, and she feels God leading her to save Lily.
This is the story of Joy [Lily], Grace, Andrew and Kai, you find God's hand in everything. Leading them all even if they don't know it. Oh how I Loved it, and wish there was more. You will adore the ending!!!
