About The Author

 

A fifth-generation Texan, Paula Peckham graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington. She worked at Burleson High School for 19 years as a math teacher. She divides her time between her home in Burleson, Texas, and her casita in Rio Bravo, Mexico. Her church does mission work there, and she makes the 9-hour drive every six to eight weeks. She is married to John, and they have four children and nine grandchildren.

Her debut novel, Protected, book one in the San Antonio series, placed in the semi-finalist round of the 2020 ACFW Genesis contest and won the gold medal in the Global Book awards. Elk Lake Publishing, Inc. launched it in April 2022. Protected was followed by book two in the series, A Father's Gift, a Christmas novella that continues the saga of Abby and Manny from book one. My Review

 This was a fun read, but it did deal with some powerful subjects, from learning problems to slavery.
Loved how we are offered a missionaries daughter, having lived in Nigeria, and how she ends up helping a farmer that has a problem with his finances. Watch how this cleaver girl goes about helping him, and maybe winning his heart?
There is also danger, and people who go to great lengths to hurt others! This is Civil War time, and the cotton farmers are hurting with embargo, I loved how this was handled!
I found the flavored butters interesting, what a great idea!
Finding lost families to fighting hate crimes, there is never a dull moment, and thus a page turner looking for answers!

My Review

 This quickly became a page turner for me, and even before I started I was drawn in by the beautiful cover!
This is Savannah Ensworth's story, a young woman born to privilege and actually rather bored by it all, and has come to the conclusion she just isn't interested in marriage, there isn't anyone who really appeals to her!
The setting is beautiful Jekyll Island and opulence is everywhere, and society rules apply!
There is also a new visiting preacher, Joseph Bennett, whom hasn't met a woman that turned his head yet, and plans to keep it that way. He thinks these rich people could do so much more to help the less fortunate, and does preach that way.
Can you imagine when these two stubborn people meet each other! Well, it happens in church, and from there these opposites attract, but there is no way society would accept this match!
I loved how secrets fell, and people change, and drastically at that, and all of this makes for a read, that I didn't want the story to end.

My Review

 

This is a story that needed to be told, women interned during WWII, they were along side the men, but separate.
As I have heard life was not easy and the length of time there was long, I can't even imagine, such courage, and you will learn of the atrocities that are committed, and the title of this read tells whom!
This read begins in Singapore as the area is being invaded, and people start fleeing, and we see the heartbreak as families are separated.
We are with the fateful sinking of the SS Vyner Brook, filled with Welch Australian Nurses, along with a large group of civilians, as we begin this journey. Yes, for the next three years and seven months, we focus on these brave woman and how some survived, and the author has done a wonderful job of bringing this story alive, we need to remember! We put names to these women and walk in their shoes, or bare feet, as they go about surviving and helping take care of each other.
It was not lost on me as to when the Red Cross packages came out!
I loved how the book was wrapped up and the updates given in the epilogue. A book not to be missed!

My Review

 

I have read all the books in this series and always look forward to the next, I love Annie and Felty!
This is their grandson Bo's story, but we are reunited with past characters, and given some updates!
Bo is dating Ruth, one of the twins, she is the extrovert, whereas her sister Naomi is much more shy.
There are other differences between the twins, and you soon will be aware of most of them. They do have a lot in common, including like Bo.
There are a lot of life lessons here, and we do journey along to see whom will end up with Bo, but most of all we get to spend time with the Helmuth grandparents!
Now I can't wait for the next grandchild match!

My Review

 This read felt so real, like everything that was happening was true, sadly, evil is trying to prevail!
This is a read that is full of action, and you will not know whom will survive to the end!
Innocently not wanting to do wrong, and being in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and we begin a journey that crosses the Atlantic.
A young woman Isla, is on the run after her attempted murder, she desperately wants to protect her family, and lives under an assumed name, and she never feels safe, proven when she meets Ben!
Ben is in Scotland attempting a climb with his Dad, and in the end Isla comes to their aid.
Journey with the threat of evil hanging over her head, and how a relationship forms between these two individuals, but can it survive?
This is a page turning read, that will have you holding your breath. It is also a Christian read, and I felt the inspiration!
