About A Deadly Combo

A Deadly Combo: A Rocky Nelson Boxing Mystery
Traditional/Cozy Blend
1st in Series
Setting – California
River Rock Press (March 1, 2023)
Number of Pages: 270
More Info Coming Soon

What do boxing and vintage trailers have in common? Rocky Nelson.

Meet Raquel Nelson (AKA Rocky), a retired single woman with an attitude. In Rocky’s opinion, independent ruffians, relentless heat, wildfires, and unhealthy AQI are all part of living in the Sierra Foothills of California.

Sisters Rocky and Bridget are enjoying each other’s company at a vintage trailerfest until they stumble over a corpse. The dead guy is none other than the local trailer restorer and Bridget was overheard threatening to kill him. Mounting evidence leads police to focus on Bridget as a person of interest. Desperate to prove her sister innocent of murder, Rocky dons her own deerstalker cap and goes sleuthing. Rocky knows a little about the job requirements, having caught her sister’s last husband in an illicit affair. Detective Thompson is on the case and isn’t happy about Rocky poking around, and lets her know in no uncertain terms. But Rocky is tenacious if not stubborn. Combined with a 78-year-old father who insists on assisting, Rocky uses her courage and skills from boxing lessons to protect her family and keep from becoming the killer’s next victim.

This is the first book in The Rocky Nelson Boxing Mystery Series – a perfect series for lovers of small town mysteries with a cozy-noir feel featuring boxing and an amateur sleuth who will stop at nothing to save the lives of those she loves.

Hello! Im Karen, or Kazzy Wazzy to my husband. 😃

Since I could hold a pencil, I’ve been writing.

In primary school, I wrote stories about my pets, my own version of princess stories, a classroom crush… *grin*

In high-school, I wrote stories about horses, adventures, my Sister…remember that story sis? *smile*

However, as strong as the writing hobby was, I still pursued a career in Veterinary Nursing by day, and a professional Ballroom Dance teacher of an evening.

It wasn’t until God intervened, moved me out of the city at into a small country town to be a farmers wife, that He resurfaced the writing desire – and gave me the stories. So was born my debut series, each book holding a part of my own testimony, Casts of Silver.

Centred around five youth group leaders, the stories look at very real circumstances young people face without sugar coating consequences of individual actions. However, where is God when problems arise?

Well, He’s always closer than you think, and He’s always working for your good.

It is my prayer you enjoy the journey these stories take you on and that they challenge, encourage and inspire you.

The song is integral to the storyline, and “Blue” in the book’s title is a blue-eyed Australian shepherd dog pictured on the cover who appears throughout the book.

In addition, a country music song I wrote for the book entitled Dreams Never Come True (For Those Who Never Dream) was recognized as a finalist in the 2022 Rhyming Poetry competition of Writer’s Digest.  The competition drew over 2,800 entries.

About the Author

Sara L. Jameson won Scrivenings Press’s grand prize publishing contract in January 2021. They released her debut romantic suspense novel, Cruise to Death, in June 2021. Death in High Places, (Book 2 in the Troubled Waters series), releases February 28, 2023, to be followed by Vengeance in Vienna.

Sara is the pseudonym of a multi-published former university professor who writes non-fiction under her real name. She also writes WW2 historical novels. When not writing, she enjoys reading, swimming, cooking, and dog-sitting.

More from Sara

Who knew adventures as a professional classical singer in Europe would lead to a romantic suspense series? Schlepping a suitcase of opera and art-song scores on cross-country trains built great arm muscles. Couple that with a few encounters with they-shall-remain- unnamed international security agencies, and fodder was created for the Troubled Waters series. And a lead character who’s far gutsier than I.

Story events are often inspired by my personal experiences. Sigh. Even some of the embarrassing moments soprano Riley Williams endures in Cruise to Death and Death in High Places. Unfortunately, the blue-eyed, blond hero, Special Agent Jacob Coulter of Brussels Interpol, is pure fiction. Whenever possible, I have visited or lived in my novels’ locales.

Although I seldom dreamed those places would birth settings for fictional murder and mayhem. Cruise to Death launches Riley’s attempts as a musical theater singer and an amateur tracker of terrorists. A family vacation on a riverboat cruise on the Mosel and Rhine rivers inspired the book’s setting. In 2019, I revisited each cruise stop, starting at the embarkation in Antwerp, Belgium.

Trips to London and stays with a friend in Sussex inspired the unsettling events in Death in High Places, which releases February 28, 2023. Of course, Antwerp and Burie’s Chocolatier had to feature in this story too.

Vengeance in Vienna, which releases December 19, 2023, draws on my years in Austria and a disturbing criminal element now active there.

Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours Presents: Tuesday Trash and Trouble: Friday Night Mystery Club Series by Joanna Campbell Slan

Tuesday Trash and Trouble: Friday Night Mystery Club Series
by Joanna Campbell Slan

About Tuesday Trash and Trouble

Tuesday Trash and Trouble: Friday Night Mystery Club Series
Cozy Mystery
3rd in Series
Setting – Illinois
Spot On Publishing (October 10, 2022)
Paperback ‏ : ‎ 332 pages
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 979-8357296788
Digital ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0B9T64ZNY

Set in 1986, Joanna Campbell Slan’s latest cozy mystery—Tuesday Trash and Trouble–features a down-on-her-luck divorcée whose passion for solving crimes lands her in the arms of a secretive cowboy–and the cross-hairs of a vengeful killer.

The year is 1986, the place is…pitiful. It’s Decatur, Illinois, known for high unemployment, striking unions, the pervasive stink of soybean processing, and seven railroad crossings at one intersection.

A wrong turn along life’s marital highway has left Catherine “Cragan” Collins stuck in Decatur. With a mountain of post-divorce bills to pay, Cragan takes a job selling high-priced newspaper advertising. If she’s lucky, her commissions will cover the cost of her grandmother’s stay in a nearby retirement home.

After the divorce, Cragan swears off men, but she’s a sucker for a guy in a nice suit. She falls hard for a man who publicly snubs her. On the rebound, she accepts an invitation from Ross Gentry, a quiet hunk who favors pearl snaps and cowboy boots. Cragan reasons that her heart is safe, because she and Ross come from two different worlds. But one night in his arms might be enough to prove her wrong.

Without warning, everything blows up in Cragan’s face. Her boss threatens to take away her accounts, a friend’s little sister is kidnapped, and an overnight guest is shot. Cragan’s best friend, Pru, is accused of attempted murder. After all, Pru’s gun was used in the crime.

Cragan calls an emergency meeting of the Friday Night Mystery Club. These mystery-loving career women are a group of smart cookies. Can their combined talents prove that Pru is innocent? And will they find an answer in time to save Cragan from the wrath of a vengeful shooter?

It takes a club to solve a mystery!

About the Author

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. After college, working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball and chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving that most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. Visit robinpatchen.com/subscribe to receive a free book and stay informed about Robin’s latest projects.

More from Robin

In Lineage of Corruption, the heroine offhandedly refers to her bodyguard as a “Venus statue.” It seemed a fair description of the woman known at the time only as Lake.

But it made me wonder… Why would a nearly six-foot-tall, drop-dead gorgeous blonde become a bodyguard?

We learned a little more about Lake in Wreathed in Disgrace, including the fact that her partner, Jon, was also her cousin—a man who considered her as close as a sister.

We also learned that Lake didn’t have the happiest background.

Slowly, over the course of writing two books, Lake became more than just the pretty bodyguard in the corner. She became real to me.

And her murky background came into view. What would make a beautiful woman, a woman given the whimsical name Summer Lake, a woman who could easily grace magazine covers—and has in the past—decide to lay down her curling iron and pick up a sidearm?

I won’t tell you her secret, but suffice it to say, Summer has good reason to carry a gun. She’s been threatened in the past. And when she was a kid, she didn’t even feel safe in her own home. She’s seen people she loved and cared about harmed, and she loathes nothing more than watching the strong prey on the weak.

She decided a long time ago that she’s never going to be counted among the weak again.

But when Summer follows a man she’s pretty sure was the mastermind behind her own worst nightmare, she inadvertently overhears his nefarious plans. Only she wasn’t as hidden as she thought, and if not for Grant, her new partner—a man who’s doggedly determined to make sure she stays safe—she might have been killed.

With just enough information to know something terrible is going to happen, Summer and Grant embark on a quest to bring down Summer’s old enemy.

But he knows who she is, and he’s not going down without a fight.

This book was a blast to write, and I absolutely can’t wait for you to get your hands on it. It’s got a hunky and protective hero, a strong yet vulnerable heroine, and a villain who’ll keep you awake at night.

I hope you’ll check it out!

My Review

This read quickly became a page turner, filled with action and suspense, and add in some sweet romance, along with sadly some PTSD.
We are running with an Undercover ATF Agent and an EMT, who I'm sure never knew what an adventure she was about to embark on when she took this case!
This is Christian read that I couldn't put down, what was going to happen next, around each corner there was a vehicle following them, along with bullets flying, but how does this evil know where they are? From Hawaii to the mainland, from the tropics to snow banks, you will be looking for answers.
Why? Well answers come, along with more questions, keep reading, as I did, and now I'm looking for more!
I received this book through the author, and was not required to give a positive review.
